Mrs. Brunelle's English Classes

September 16th - September 20th

Please find helpful information about classes and assignments below. For more specific information about this week's assignments and due dates, please choose a class from the side bar.

Honors English 11 -- This week, we will continue our discussion of print and visual media in relation to Brave New World. Over the weekend, students were asked to find and analyze magazine advertisements. They will share these with the class on Monday and Tuesday. Students will also watch and analyze commercials this week. I will assign the Brave New World project to the Honors 1 section this Friday and the Honors 2 section next Monday. We continue our reading in Great Expectations with chapters 9 and 10, and the students will continue writing their own work based on the novel formula. In addition, they will keep up with their SAT words and their independent reading books (biography / autobiography). Finally, we are reviewing PSAT questions on grammar / punctuation.

English 11A -- This week, we continue our review of Lord of the Flies through class discussion, journals, group work and lecture. I will assign the first magazine article at the end of this week. The article will be based on the four journals that students have already completed. Students will also read chapters 3-5 in Great Expectations. In addition, they are practicing grammar / punctuation and vocabulary for the PSAT. Students should also continue their independent reading books (test as the end of the month).

MCAS Review - Students continue to study the three forms of irony through various stories, poems and film clips. They will also learn about setting, mood, tone, suspense and comic relief. In addition, students are learning how to write a successful open response. We are also reviewing various poems from last year's exam. Toward the end of the week, I will teach the first paragraph of the five-paragraph essay. Please make sure that students always bring their independent reading books to class.
